looks like another great Masterpiece

This Sunday night, Cranford (by Elizabeth Gaskill...also wrote Wives & Daughters...Kimber just introduced her to me this year) will be on Masterpiece Theatre. If you long for another trip back to the Dickens/Austen era, then this will be right up your alley.

Thanks for the tip...we enjoyed it tonight! So many layers...loved it! Of course, hoping for some happiness to redeem the sad ending of Part I tonight...

I loved it too! I read a review in the newspaper (which is how I heard about it in the first place) that said Gaskill's work is not as amusing or lighthearted as Austen's but not quite as severe as Dickens either. I think this work definitely shows a harsher view of the severe classism of those times (and our times more than we think).

I definitely am anxious to check out Wives & Daughters and give it a second go this summer. Thanks so much for introducing me to her stuff, Kimber!!
